File Name: aide-0.12-rc1.tar.gz Size: 275346 bytes
Description: AIDE (Advanced Intrusion Detection Environment) is a free replacement for Tripwire. It does the same things as the semi-free Tripwire and more. There are other free replacements available so why build a new one? All the other replacements do not achieve the level of Tripwire. And I wanted a program that would exceed the limitations of Tripwire. It creates a database from the regular expression rules that it finds from the config file. Once this database is initialized it can be used to verify the integrity of the files. It has several message digest algorithms (md5,sha1,rmd160,tiger,haval,etc.) that are used to check the integrity of the file. More algorithms can be added with relative ease. All of the usual file attributes can also be checked for inconsistencies. It can read databases from older or newer versions.

File Name: lids-1.2.2-2.4.30.tar.gz Size: 335219 bytes
Description: The Linux Intrusion Detection System (LIDS) is a kernel patch and admin tools which enhances the kernel's security by implementing Mandatory Access Control (MAC). When it is in effect, chosen file access, all system network administration operations, any capability use, raw device, memory, and I/O access can be made impossible even for root. You can define which programs can access specific files. It uses and extends the system capabilities bounding set to control the whole system and adds some network and filesystem security features to the kernel to enhance the security. You can finely tune the security protections online, hide sensitive processes, receive security alerts through the network, and more. LIDS currently support kernel 2.6, 2.4. LIDS is released under GPL. This particular package is for the 2.4 kernels.

In addition, for the 2.4.x kernels psad incorporates many of the TCP signatures included in Snort to detect highly suspect scans for various backdoor programs (e.g. EvilFTP, GirlFriend, SubSeven), DDoS tools (mstream, shaft), and advanced port scans (syn, fin, Xmas) which are easily leveraged against a machine via nmap.

File Name: ettercap-0.6.5.tar.gz Size: 546845 bytes
Description: Ettercap is a network sniffer/interceptor/logger for switched LANs. It uses ARP poisoning and the man-in-the-middle technique to sniff all the connections between two hosts. Features character injection in an established connection - you can inject characters to server (emulating commands) or to client (emulating replies) while maintaining the connection alive! Integrated into a easy-to-use and powerful ncurses interface.

File Name: nmap-4.11.tgz Size: 2650708 bytes
Description: Nmap is a free open source utility for network exploration or security auditing. It was designed to rapidly scan large networks, although it works fine against single hosts. Nmap uses raw IP packets in novel ways to determine what hosts are available on the network, what services (application name and version) those hosts are offering, what operating systems (and OS versions) they are running, what type of packet filters/firewalls are in use, and dozens of other characteristics. Nmap runs on most types of computers and both console and graphical versions are available. Nmap is free and open source.
